Bihar Approves 125 Units of Free Monthly Electricity for 1.67 Crore Households

The Bihar state cabinet has approved a plan to provide 125 units of free electricity per month to approximately 1.67 crore domestic consumers, a day after the policy was announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The scheme, effective August 1, will apply a 100% subsidy on consumption up to 125 units, waiving all fixed and other charges. The move is expected to cost the state exchequer an additional ₹3,797 crore annually, bringing the total power subsidy to nearly ₹20,000 crore.
